Futuristic User Interface: Bridging The Gap

Earlier I was a firm believer of the fact that futuristic user interface will be a whole new experience, and would be a user-friendly concept that eliminates keyboards, mouses and other present world devices, for those who have went through my previous post on Next generation user interface would agree that to some extent I was right in concluding the same. Lately I was privileged enough to go through a superb news about a newly devised brain scanner that will allow paralyzed individuals to spell words, using their thoughts to actually initiate the sequence. As per the experts involved in the study, this brain scanner could assist paralyzed people to spell words using their thoughts.

'Functional magnetic resonance imaging' or in short FMRI is the technology that powers this concept, which enables a person to chose between 27 character. The device attached with that person analyzes the blood flow pattern produced in the brain depending on the alphabet chosen by the person. The same study of alphabets and blood pattern accordingly is also included in the current biology journal of Cell Press.

I have a strange intuition that futuristic user interface will be all about pushing your brain to the limits and even beyond. Imagine using your brain signals to drive around in a car or simply create a design or to perform much superior tasks. Going through some prominent researches and news enabled me to cogitate that there will be a time when using such mind control mechanisms, even disabled will be able to walk.

Taking user interface to the next level is the technology, which is trying to bridge the gap between man and machine. That is integrating devices that can read brain signals and transmit the same in the form of commands to the humanoids. I hope technological innovations like these lead towards the betterment of human society and also towards well being of unprivileged.

Keep dreaming about future technologies ;)
