Here is the latest update from the software giant, Microsoft !. Microsoft has released Driver 3.0 for SQL PHP Server and the technology preview is available for download for the users. The test releases of the Microsoft Driver 3.0 are freely available. One important thing to note is that Microsoft is also working on its prestigious project, SQL server code name “Denali” while releasing the developmental milestone of Microsoft 3.0 driver for SQL PHP CTP1.
“The Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server are PHP 5 extensions that allows for the reading and writing of SQL Server data from within PHP scripts. The SQLSRV extension provides a procedural interface while the PDO_SQLSRV extension implements PDO for accessing data in all editions of SQL Server 2005 and later,” Microsoft explained.

New Features in Microsoft 3.0 Drivers for SQL PHP server are :
1. Support for LocalDB, which was added in Microsoft SQL Server Code -Named “Denali”, Community technology Preview 3 (CTP 3).
2. AttachDBFileName connection option is added.
3. Support for the high-availability, disaster recovery features added in Microsoft SQL Server Code-named “Denali”, Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP 3).
4. Support for buffered queries .
To use the Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server, you must have SQL Server Native Client installed on the same computer on which PHP is running. You can download the Microsoft Driver3.0 for SQL PHP server here .
