Hi Friends,
Google coming out with new products every now and then showed that this Internet giant is certainly a forerunner. But the recent news about Google is its tweaks into the Hotpot product that it launched few months back.
With identical functionality, what Hotpot did will now be seen at Google places. Calling it a thing of the past, Google recently announced that Hotpot will not be Hotpot anymore. Its URL will be redirected to Google Places now. In spite of this redirection, the functionality which Hotpot possessed that is rating and reviewing features will work in a same way on Google Places. The branding is still underway with Google Places to replace the logo of Google Hotpot.
Launched last November, Hotpot was really among the big features that was used extensively by people and was expanded to 47 languages. And considering this, Google also released Android or iPhone applications that were integrated with Hotpot recommendations into Google Maps or Google.com.
I think, Hotpot redirecting move is made by Google to stretch Hotpot usage a bit more. But this doesn't mean that it will make any alterations in functionality as declared by sources. Users can still see their friends recommendations or reviews or rating in search results of Google Places or Google.com.
Marissa Mayer from Google admitted that the company has many of its products such as Google Places, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Latitude, Google Street View and Google Hotpot and they will soon condense them; with Hotpot being the first one to witness such change.
Although, Hotpot will be released from its name, but we can still expect much 'Hotpotness' in Places. Google has hefty plans of adding few other features to Places that will seamlessly improve the way ratings were given, places were discovered and shared on Google.
