Google To Gain Online Movie Streaming Rights

Hey Guys,

Google's highly used and most viewed video site You Tube is trying to secure deals with Hollywood's top studios for a new on-demand service, which is of streaming movies, by this year end. The recent reports have confirmed the news stating that Google had an ongoing talks with major film companies and studios of Hollywood to offer a pay-per-view services of their films.

After this negotiation on streaming videos, viewers will not have to first download a movie to play it, instead the media will be sent in a continuous stream of data and is played directly as soon as it arrives to their machines. Reports said that the streaming movie service will cost USD 5 per movie to the online users to import their favourite movies on their screens. While news of Google's ramping up its Google TV campaign not being a secret anymore, reports have also highlighted the news of Apple who is vying for the similar plan, like as the Google, to bring the services to computer monitors across the globe. The experts have revealed the news of launch of an improved Apple TV device that will enable users to connect to their existing TVs so as to get them an access to Internet for movies and video downloads through iTunes.

While Google's negotiation with Hollywood's leading film studios has been ongoing for past several months (said by YouTube that it had already been beta-testing film rental service since January this year), but have taken on a momentum recently so that the on-demand service could be launched as early as the end of 2010. Commenting on the reported news, Matthew Garrahn and Richard Waters of Financial Times said that this move by Google to stream movies at USD 5 per movie will lead to the intensification of competition already existing between media and technology companies over the digital delivery of films and TV programming.

This new step taken by Google is going to become a reason for excitement in Hollywood as film studios were trying to find ways to increase revenue with the replacement of declined DVD sales. Viewers would get to watch the movie on Internet at the same time as their release on DVD.
